'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith continues contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he reminisces about the nail-biting closing stages of his team's epic comeback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup. The game culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a spectator's eyewear amid the on-field celebration.

During the final moments of stoppage time, Galbraith cracked the upright with a powerful effort from distance, and Cameron Burgess promptly hammered in the loose ball before racing off toward the crowd to revel in the moment, with fans swarming the players.

Remarkable Recovery

The victory completed an incredible turnaround given the Welsh side had found themselves down 2-0 during the second half. Amid the celebrations, there was some minor mishaps. The midfielder recalled, "There was a supporter trying to get our attention and we were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a light-hearted moment putting them on. We are on the pitch as footballers but we're humans, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Manchester City Challenge

The result earned a next round fixture at home against Pep Guardiola's side on Wednesday, a club Galbraith ran close at the equivalent round of the FA Cup with Leyton Orient in February. Galbraith had an excellent perspective when Orient took the lead in spectacular fashion, with the attacker's first-time shot from about 45 yards going in via the bar and the City goalkeeper. It feels criminal that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've credited him for taking the effort on from that distance," commented Galbraith, who played in the middle before switching to right wing-back after Orient changed tactics. That meant competing with Jack Grealish, with whom he exchanged jerseys, and the attacker was among the opposition who complimented the way his former team played positively.

City's Quality

"Fitness-wise they are outstanding but even the basics and routine actions, they can just execute repeatedly," Galbraith says. "It seems as if they never miss a pass and they know how to dictate and take the sting out of a game. You can believe you're doing well and then suddenly they will just fizz a pass through a line without you even seeing. You have to be alert throughout of the game. It requires a strong mentality and focus just to keep pace."

Swansea Move

The Welsh side sought to acquire Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to bring him in in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He made a name as a crowd pleaser across two seasons at his former club and has rapidly achieved similar status in his new home. At Orient he reunited with the coach, who previously gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in first-team action on loan at a League One side from Old Trafford. Then came a loan at League Two Salford, before he permanently left his boyhood club.

Growth Journey

"I was perhaps a somewhat inexperienced going into senior level. I think many athletes would say under-23s football is very different. Sometimes it seems the ball is moved without much intensity. You see few physical contests. Once you start playing first-team football you have to learn quickly."

International Recognition

He has shown that growth for both domestically and internationally, shining for the Green and White Army, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the knockout phase and for whom he has featured in the past five games, including both legs games against a football powerhouse. His former international manager, Galbraith's ex- international manager, paid him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he handles the football and his eye for a killer pass.

Humble Beginnings

This marks a remarkable path for the player from the local area in his hometown, just outside Belfast, who used to see his parent, Stuart, also a midfielder, play for Ballyclare Comrades.

Manchester United Experience

The player's single match for United came in the away trip in 2019, a European competition trip to the Kazakh capital, where they featured on an plastic turf and the venue ceiling was closed owing to the weather of bitter cold. "It was a extended travel and it was freezing," he comments, grinning. "The preceding week, the academy prospects trained together, so that aided our adjustment. Just to join the main group and get a couple of minutes at the end was amazing."

Moving On

What was the challenge was it to leave United, the club he joined from Linfield aged a teenager? "It was quite easy, because I got to the stage where I knew I couldn't establish myself at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the time I spent there but it became apparent where I felt I needed to go my own route, drop down the leagues and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly climbing the ladder."

New Environment

It is mid-afternoon at the club's training ground but Galbraith has an appointment at 5pm: a road rules assessment, another progress toward getting on the road. Until recently to the local area, the young professional was a regular in Swansea's dubbed team minibus, a team vehicle driven by team personnel, the transport team, which ferries players to and from training and matches.

"I travel with Gonçalo Franco, another squad member, an Ivorian player – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has started driving. It's nice to interact with the lads but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and on the road. The Portuguese player is known for his humor; he's always up to all sorts."

Public Engagement

While playing for his former club, Galbraith would blend in with followers on public transport after beginning his trip at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
